What is PLA? Polylactic Acid is a biodegradable thermoplastic derived from natural sources like corn or potatoes. It is not as impact-resistant as ABS, but it's easier to print and produces more accurate and glossy parts without requiring a heated bed.

Smart Materials 3D offers a wide range of PLA filament colors, weights, and diameters (1.75 mm and 2.85 mm), making it compatible with most commercial 3D printers.

Smartfil PLA is made with 100% virgin PLA, with no recycled or reprocessed material. It is fully stabilized and has a diameter tolerance of ±0.03 mm. No warping. Excellent print resolution.

MAINTENANCE TIPS

After finishing a print, we recommend leaving the filament loaded in the extruder if you won't be printing again immediately. This avoids nozzle clogs caused by hardened residual filament.

How to prevent clogs?

Heat the nozzle to the printing temperature (e.g., 210 °C for PLA) and push slightly to clear the old filament before unloading. If switching to a filament with a lower printing temperature, keep the previous higher temp until the new filament is extruding properly.

After several prints, clean the hotend using a cleaning filament to ensure optimal performance.

POST-PROCESSING OPTIONS

PLA cannot be smoothed with acetone like ABS, but you can:

• Sand and paint with acrylic paint
• Coat with epoxy resin, such as Poxyglass 3D
• Apply clear spray varnish for protection and shine
