TPU FILAMENT 93A – PRINTING TIPS
Smartfil TPU 93A is engineered for optimal printability on most desktop 3D printers. With a Shore A hardness of 93, it balances flexibility with ease of extrusion.
- Use minimal retractions, especially with Bowden extruders.
- Apply adhesive spray or glue stick to improve bed adhesion.
- Keep printing speed moderate (20–30 mm/s) to ensure proper flow.
- Adjust your retraction and flow settings if stringing or under-extrusion occurs.
How is 93A different from other Shore A grades?
- 77A: Ultra-flexible, similar to silicone rubber. Very hard to print on Bowden systems.
- 85A: Softer than 93A, more stretchable, slightly trickier to print.
- 93A: Balanced flexibility and printability – ideal for most users.
- 98A: Semi-flexible, closer to a rigid feel. Easier to print than lower Shore grades.
FAQ – PRINTING FLEXIBLE TPU ON HOME 3D PRINTERS
- Q: Can I print TPU with a Bowden extruder?
- A: Yes, but it's more difficult. Direct drive systems are better. If using Bowden, reduce retractions and print slowly.
- Q: Does TPU need bed adhesion?
- A: Yes. Use a heated bed and apply glue stick or 3D printing spray.
- Q: Should I dry the filament before printing?
- A: Yes. TPU is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture. Store it in a dry box or dry it before use.
- Q: What is the ideal nozzle temperature?
- A: Between 220 – 230 ºC, depending on your printer and environment.
